Drink n Draw -TCAF 2017 hosted by BOPU Squad

At The Pilot Tavern, 22 Cumberland St

The Drink ‘n’ Draw is a fantastic chance to meet other cartoonists before things at the festival get too wild! We’ll be providing plenty of drawing supplies, so all you have to do is show up and socialize and drink (I guess???). MAKE FRIENDS!

Speaking of which, this year’s DnD is being hosted by the wonderful artists in Toronto’s very own BOPU Squad!

Come on out and help them celebrate all of their debuting books!!!

Plenary Session – iON Funding
Moderated by Colin Ferguson, SHG Studios with speakers Kim Gibson & Jennifer Blitz (OMDC), Rod Butler (CMF), and Dan Clark (Moonray Studios)

Whether creating video games, transmedia, e‑Learning, web series, mobile content or other IDM products, the challenge of obtaining financing is by far the most common barrier to the growth of Ontario’s IDM companies. Are you aware of the funding and tax incentives that are available in Ontario? Is your company taking advantage of these incentives?

Join us for a general overview of OMDC funding and tax credits and CMF funding, including the types of activities that they are intended to support and the impact it can have on your business. This session will also feature a case study of Moonray Studios.

2 – 3:30 pm
Breakout session for IDM professionals:
“What I Wish I’d Known”

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self as you prepared to start a company, deliver a product on deadline, or keep your team happy? This panel brings together IDM professionals to share their personal experiences working in the industry, what they wish they’d known back then, and what they’ve learned since. Join us for this discussion and learn from their mistakes!

Moderated by David Carter ED, Innovation Factory

Fan Expo Canada - Metro Toronto Convention Center

Fan Expo is on of the bigger events to come to Toronto, I figured I would post what it is from their FAQ.

“The Expo,” as it has become known, is a playground for people of all ages who are interested in any, or all, of the 5 genres Fan Expo Canada has to offer.  Each event has its own schedule of activities unique to its industry (schedules will be made available under each event) including, but not limited to; gaming tournaments, question and answer sessions with the hottest guests in their industry, artists competition (“Sketching Duels”), workshops like special effects/make-up, portfolio reviews, a masquerade (where people dress up as their favourite character) and much more!  If that isn’t enough for your senses, there are also exhibits from major companies showcasing their latest products and the largest retailer area of its kind where you can buy that limited edition item or that something special you’ve always wanted."

You can keep up to date with the gaming aspect here.

Torontaru At The Get Well

  • Google Calendar ICS

The monthly meet up of Toronto Game Developers at The Get Well happens this Wednesday April 29th.

"WHAT IS TORONTARU? Torontaru is a monthly meet-up with the simple aspirations of providing a place for friendly, game-inclined ladies and gents (whether you make 'em or you like 'em!) to chat and have a pint. No-fuss funtimes. Torontaru's not just for regulars, either! If it's your first time and don't know where to start, look for the oversized Octopus buttons (worn by co-founders and trusted peers) and come introduce yourself! We'd love to meet you."

You can check out the full event details on FaceBook and follow them on Twitter as well.

It’s also a platform for participants to find encouragement, resources and a venue for speaking about their work in a supportive and productive environment."

Presenting will be Arielle Grimes, Kara Stone, and Suzanne Sutherland to discuss different subjects. It will be a free event at Bento Miso Collaborative Workspace, 862 Richmond Street West.
