TUNIC, Life of a Teenage Exocolonist Among Few Canadian Nominees for 2022 Game Awards

Canadian ex-pat Geoff Keighley has announced the nominees for the annual The Video Game Awards show set to air live on December 8, including a couple of Canadian nominees.

Vancouver-based Northway Games (@northwaygames)’s card-based narrative RPG I Was a Teenage Exocolonist was nominated for Games for Impact, a category “for a thought-provoking game with a pro-social message.”

Montréal-based Tribute Games (@TributeGames)’s throwback beat ‘em up TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge received Best Action Game and Best Multiplayer nods.

The Cuphead Show (based on the Canadian-developed videogame Cuphead) was produced by the Oakville-based creators of the original game, Studio MDHR (@StudioMDHR), and was nominated for Best Adaptation- a new category debuting at this year’s show.

Cuphead was nominated for 5 awards in 2017, winning Best Art Direction, Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game.

The most prominent Canadian nominee for the year was Halifax-based Andrew Shouldice (@dicey)’s TUNIC, which was nominated for Best Indie, Best Debut Indie and Best Action/Adventure.

TUNIC also featured audio design by Vancouver-based Power Up Audio (@PowerUpAudio), who’ve contributed to other award-winning Canadian indie games like Darkest Dungeon, Celeste and many more.

The Game Awards airs on Thursday, December 8, over on The Game Awards twitch channel with the pre-show starting at 7:30 pm ET.
